Hangars Numeriques

Laboratory of interdisciplinary creations

Representations of the human body have constantly evolved according to scientific knowledge and technological advances. Recent research in microbiology leads to think of the body as an ecosystem that serves as an environment for other living beings. These would be a major and indispensable component of the self. We would therefore be populated by others and these others would do what we are.

Together in chaos proposes a representation of a body where the self and the non-self form an intimate association and thus tries to question our perception of the contours of the organic, to question what founds our individuality.

More globally, Together in chaos is part of a series of works proposing virtual figurations in real time of the body in movement.

Antoine Vanel uses three-dimensional technologies to burst the dancing body.

After obtaining an engineering degree in 2006 (UTBM), he started his career as a research engineer at the Institut National de la Recherche en Informatique et Automatismes (INRIA, Grenoble, France). He started to put his skills to work on creative projects in 2011 when he founded the Beam'Art collective with Benjamin Petit (LTBL). He evolves as an artist in 2016 under the name of Blindsp0t.

His work focuses on issues of surveillance, fundamental freedoms in the digital environment, big data, citizenship in the age of social networks and trans-humanism.

He imagines immersive audio-visual experiences and installations that play with perception: of oneself, of others, more generally of the reality that surrounds us; and questions us on these subjects.

He uses his skills as a programmer to develop custom technical solutions for each project – and while staying close to the latest advances in digital technology, keeps his critical distance. Cutting-edge technologies are taken, reshaped and reconfigured as new tools for creation, subverting their standard uses to prompt a deeper reflection on how and when we call on our digital devices.

The interaction of the living body with digital material is also a strong axis of his work, and has led him to collaborate with several choreographers, dancers and directors (Eric Minh Cuong Castaing (Cie Shonen), Annick Charlot (Cie Acte), Benjamin Villemagne (Cie Quincaillerie Moderne), Iffra Dia (Cie Iffra Dia), Hafid Sour (Cie Ruée des Arts).

His work is supported by:

* DRAC Auvergne Rhone Alpes
* the Auvergne Rhone Alpes Region
* the National Center for Cinema and Moving Image (CNC/ DICREAM)
* The French Institute
* The city of Lyon
* The metropolis of Greater Lyon
